Male Infertility

Male infertility refers to the inability of a man to impregnate a female partner due to factors related to his reproductive system. It is a common issue and can be caused by various factors. Here are some key points about male infertility:
Causes:
- Low Sperm Count (Oligospermia): A low sperm count, where the concentration of sperm in the semen is below the normal range, can reduce the chances of fertilization. Various factors can contribute to this, including hormonal imbalances, genetic conditions, testicular injury or infection, certain medications, exposure to toxins, and lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, or illicit drug use.
- Abnormal Sperm Morphology: Even if the sperm count is within the normal range, abnormalities in sperm shape (morphology) can affect their ability to reach and fertilize an egg.
- Impaired Sperm Motility: Poor sperm motility, or the inability of sperm to move effectively, can make it difficult for sperm to reach the egg for fertilization.
- Obstruction or Blockage: Blockages or obstructions in the reproductive tract can prevent the release of sperm or their passage through the reproductive system. These obstructions can result from infections, previous surgeries, congenital abnormalities, or issues with the vas deferens or ejaculatory ducts.
- Erectile Dysfunction or Ejaculation Disorders: Difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction) or problems with ejaculation, such as retrograde ejaculation (where semen enters the bladder instead of being expelled through the penis), can contribute to male infertility.
