Peyronies Disease / Abnormal Penile Curvature

Peyronie's disease is a condition characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue, known as plaque, within the penis. This plaque can cause the penis to bend or curve abnormally during an erection, leading to pain, discomfort, and difficulties with sexual intercourse. Here are some key points about Peyronie's disease:
Causes:
- Trauma or Injury: Peyronie's disease can develop as a result of trauma or injury to the penis, such as during sexual activity or an accident.
- Genetic Factors: There may be a genetic predisposition to developing Peyronie's disease, as it can run in families.
- Connective Tissue Disorders: Some individuals with Peyronie's disease may have underlying connective tissue disorders, such as Dupuytren's contracture.
Symptoms:
- Penile Curvature: The primary symptom of Peyronie's disease is an abnormal curvature or bending of the penis during erection. The curvature may be upward, downward, or to the side.
- Pain or Discomfort: Some individuals with Peyronie's disease may experience pain or discomfort during erection or sexual activity.
- Erectile Dysfunction: In some cases, Peyronie's disease can cause difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection.
